Science Lab Experiment: Air Pressure
Demonstration: Air Pressure
Object: To find out how gases affect pressure.
Materials: bell jar, glass tubing, one-holed stopper, rubber sheeting, balloons, elastic
Diagram:
Method: The balloons were observed when the rubber sheeting was pulled downward
and when released.
Observations: It was noted that as the rubber sheeting was pulled downward,
the balloons filled with air.
When the sheeting was released, the balloons emptied.
Conclusions: The air in the jar remained constant, but when the sheeting
was moved downward that air increased in volume, thus having less
force on the balloons. The outside air rushed down the glass
tubing and filled the balloons. In our bodies the DIAPHRAGM
moves down and air rushes down the windpipe to fill the lungs.
