Science Lab Experiment: Freezing Water

Demonstration: Freezing Water

Object: To find out which freezes faster hot or cold water.

Materials: two containers (plastic), 150 ml hot water, 150 ml cold water, thermometer, freezer, timer

Diagram:

Method: Approximately 150 ml cold water was poured into a plastic container. The temperature was taken and the time recorded. This container of water was placed into the freezing compartment of the refrigerator. After some time, this container was removed and a similar container with hot water at a known temperature was placed into the freezing compartment.

Observations: After both containers had been in the freezer for two hours, they were checked and it was found that the hot water container had only ice, while the cold water container had a mixture of ice and water.

Conclusions: It was concluded that hot water freezes faster than cold water.
