Science Lab Experiment:

Demonstration: Heating Water

Object: To learn what happens to the temperature of water as it is heated and to draw a graph relating temperature to time.

Materials: water, electric heater, thermometer, beaker

Diagrams:
heating water

Method: The materials were set up as shown in the diagram. The water was heated and every minute the temperature was recorded until the water boiled.

Observations: The temperature was seen to rise slowly at first and then increase rapidly, until the water was almost boiling. The rise in temperature then slowed.

Conclusions: It was concluded that water tends to absorb heat, causing a gradual increase in temperature at first.
