Science Lab Experiment: Weighing Air

Demonstration Weighing Air

Object: To find out whether air has weight or not.

Materials: scales, balloons, twist tie, air

Diagram:
weighing air

Method: The materials were set up as shown in the diagram. The empty balloon was weighed and the weight was recorded. The balloon was filled with air and weighed.

Observations: The balloon which had been filled with air was seen to move scales downward. This showed that the air in the balloon was heavier than in the empty balloon.

Data:Weight of balloon and tie and air = 2.8 g Weight of empty balloon and tie = 2.8 g Weight of air = 0.8 g

Conclusions: It was concluded that air has weight.
